HEXAGON LEGO
Hexagon is a shape prevalent in nature due to its efficiency (benzene ring, snowflakes, honeycomb). The mystical properties of this shape always fascinated humans (Flower of life, Mandalas, Metatron’s cube).In a hexagonal grid each line is as short as it can possibly be if a large area is to be filled with the fewest number of hexagons. The resulting area can be decomposed into symmetrical patterns without any overlap which makes it perfectly suitable for a mapped VIDEO-PROJECTION. For this purpose we have engineered HEXAGON LEGO: a set of various sizes hexagon frames which are possible to combine. This allow us to use a site-specific approach to realisation of every installation/performance.

The setup depends on the event, size of venue, shape of the stage, etc.. Hexagons are currently coated with cotton matte fabric, perfect for frontal or rear projection, but coating can be replaced with any other material.For performance we take advantage of VVVV software with customized interface for VJing. This software enables us to map the shape of each hexagon in the constellation, break it down to six or twenty-four equilateral triangles, cubes and other shapes, and use it’s symmetry for playing with kaleidoscopic reflections of the various footage. The video contents are usually generated by interaction with audience or with the music, but can also be any given photos, videos, patterns, logos.

Das Hexagon ist häufig als Form in der Natur zu finden. Die mystischen Eigenschaften dieser Form haben den Menschen seit jeher fasziniert. Eine Fläche aus Hexagonen eignet sich sehr gut für das Videomapping. Die Gesamtfläche kann in symmetrische Formen zerteilt werden. Aus diesem Grund haben wir HEXAGON LEGO gebaut: ein Set aus Hexagonen in verschiedenen Größen, die beliebig kombiniert werden können. Dadurch können wir uns an jede örtliche Gegebenheit anpassen. Das Setup richtet sich nach dem Event, der Größe des Veranstaltungsortes, der Form der Bühne, etc. 
Für die Performance verwenden wir die Software VVVV. Diese Software erlaubt uns, die Form eines jeden Hexagons zu mappen, in Dreiecke, Würfel oder andere Formen zu teilen und deren Symmetrie zu nutzen. Das Videomaterial wird für gewöhnlich durch die Interaktion mit dem Publikum oder mit der Musik erzeugt, kann aber auch beliebiges Foto-, Video- oder Grafikmaterial sein.
